Tennis Time Machine - 1967 U.S. Championships
It was the 1967 U.S. Championships at Forest Hills and no one could have foreseen what was about to happen. Heavily favored, Roy Emerson, was facing relatively unknown, Clark Graebner, in what would turn out to be the dawn of a new generation of racquets. Graebner crushed the Aussie legend with 25 aces that day with a new type of weapon...the Wilson T-2000. It was the first stainless-steel frame on the market and it made a BIG noise!! French tennis legend, Rene Lacoste, developed this canon for it's debut at Forest Hills. Graebner was not the only one using the T-200 that day. Billy Jean King took the Women's title with the exact same stick.
Now, the T-2000 is only mentioned in the same sentence as the master who made it famous, one James Scott Connors. But, what Rene Lacoste did was fire the starters pistol for a race that continues today: the race for the ultimate materials to create the strongest, most powerful and controllable racquet on the planet. We at WhatsAllTheRacquet.com hope we can help you find that racquet.
