Rafael Nadal retired down 7-6(5), 4-1 to Juan Monaco in his opening match at Cincinnati, suffering from dizziness and cramping in his left arm. Richard Gasquet, with whom Nadal was supposed to play doubles this week, also retired in the second set of his match against Lleyton Hewitt.
