- Australian Casey Dellacqua stunned No.15 seed Patty Schnyder 4-6 7-5 8-6
- Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga beat American qualifier Sam Warburg 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 6-2.
- Maria Sharapova easily beat Lindsay Davenport in their second round match.
