HEAD Pros Getting It Done on the Pro Tour
07/15/08 - Austria - Kennelbach - HEAD players enjoyed success last week at various tournaments around the world.
In the Allianz Suisse Open, HEAD player Victor Hanescu won his first singles career title, making him the first Romanian winner to capture the Allianz Suisse Open Gstaad title since Ilie Nastase in 1973. After defeating World No. 10 HEAD player Stanislav Wawrinka in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, Hanescu faced Igor Andreev and bested him in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Wawrinka also reached the doubles finals with his partner Stephane Bohli where they lost 6-3, 2-6, 9-11.

"I am thrilled to have earned a victory today," said Hanescu. "It is very exciting to be the first Romanian to win here in over thirty years."
Also in the singles competition, HEAD player Guillermo Garcia-Lopez gained momentum by reaching the semifinals. He eventually lost to runner-up Igor Andreev in three sets 7-6(2), 5-7, 7-6(5). Garcia-Lopez plays with a MicroGEL Prestige MP.
Second-seeded HEAD player Fabrice Santoro, who plays with a MicroGEL Radical MP, defended his title in Newport with a straight two-set victory to become the third player in the history of the Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. Santoro earned a victory against Prakash Amritraj 6-3, 7-5.
In his semifinals match, Santoro beat Vince Spadea to notch his 450th career ATP singles match victory. Only Roger Federer (594), Carlos Moya (557) and Lleyton Hewitt (485) have amassed bigger totals.
In the Mercedes Cup, HEAD player Richard Gasquet, who plays with a MicroGEL Extreme Pro, advanced to the final round where he lost to eventual winner Juan-Martin Del Potro in straight sets 4-6, 5-7. On his way to the finals, Gasquet defeated fellow HEAD player Agustin Calleri 6-7, 6-2, 6-3.
In Bastad HEAD player Robin Soderling, who plays with a MicroGEL Radical MP, won the doubles competition with his land compatriot Jonas Bjorkman against Brunstrom/Rojer 6-2, 6-2.
HEAD player Alize Cornet earned her first career singles title at the Gaz de France Grand Prix in straight sets against Andreja Klepac 7-6(5), 6-3. On the way to her final round, Cornet also defeated fellow HEAD player Greta Arn in the semifinal 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles competition, Cornet and her partner Janette Husarova won against Henke/Olaru 6-7(5), 6-1, 10-6.
