What's All The Racquet's Holiday Tennis Gift Guide

2009 has been an incredible year for tennis, much like 2008 and 2007 before. But beyond the amazing pros in the game today, there has also been a lot of great tennis equipment this year. With Wilson's K line and the Head YouTek, the racquets alone will give you plenty of gift ideas for yourself or the tennis player in your life.

Tennis Racquets

The Head YouTek Radical Pro is used by Andy Murray, and for good reason. The stick makes use of new Head technologies such as d3o and DuPont Teflon grommets in a player-oriented package. It has a 100 square inch head, moderately thin 21.5mm beam, leather grip and 11.7 oz. strung weight add up to a control and feel oriented stick for more advanced players. A more open 16x19 string pattern than Head typically has offered in its players frames makes the YouTek Radical Pro more spin friendly for topspin players. Head introduces d3o technology in the Head Speed Pro, and is a "smart" material in that it behaves differently under varying dynamic loading or impact. Integrated in the frame lay-up and positioned in the shaft area (where the racquet flexes the most), d3o seeks to help players maximize performance on all shots. High speed impacts lock d3o together within nanoseconds at the molecular level, stiffening the frame to provide maximum power. Conversely, on slower speed impacts, the d3o molecules absorb the impact providing softer touch for better feel. The YouTek Radical Pro also uses a DuPont Teflon grommet system that reduces friction. Less friction means maintaining more of the strings energy, and a resulting slight increase in power.
