Tatiana Golovin and Gisela Dulko don some stylish and classic Lacoste duds at the Hopman Cup. As we've made painfully clear, we like classic looks in our tennis apparel, and Lacoste seems to be on that track and maintaining their legacy.
Also debuting are the adidas threads of Alicia Molik. Another updated classic look - with cool piping and colors. It seems (hopefully) that adidas has figured out that you can have modern looks without throwing ugly graphics on the apparel.
Who says your tennis bag needs to look like a traditional tennis bag? Nobody! That's why this bowling-inspired bag from Balle de Match is so cool.
The bag measures 22" L x 8" W x 11" H. This makes it large enough to put your racquet in it, with room to spare for towels, extra clothes and anything else you need. Features include a spongy handle grip and 2 front accessory pockets.
On December 28th we posted that Indian phenom Sania Mirza had just dropped her Lotto deal and signed with adidas. Thanks to Down the Line, we now have a glimpse of her new adidas apparel. She wore it at the recent Hopman Cup. She may have lost there to Meghan Shaughnessy, but at least she looked good in her classic red and white adidas apparel.
Nothing says "Classic Tennis" more than bright red running shorts with "Tennisland" screenprinted on the ass. The shorts are 100% interlock cotton and made by Balle de Match, who is one of our favorite apparel makers. They're known for their rebelliousness, so these shorts fit right in with their brand.
Ahhh...a tennis player playing ping-pong on national television...what more could we ask for? Here we have a recent appearance by Maria Sharapova on the Ellen Degeneres show. It takes a couple minutes until the ping pong ensues, but not too too long.
It took some time to make out what table they are using because the video's so blurry, but we're pretty sure its a Kettler Stockholm Indoor Green ping pong table.
This is a very nice table from one of the premier brands in the industry. It has an exceptionally smooth, warp resistant wooden top and a patented mechanism that allows the table to be folded for playback or compact storage. A very thoughtful added feature - the net and post set are designed to remain in play position, even when folded. Nobody likes to unfold their table and have the net all wrinkled.
OK...if that's a little boring for you...maybe you'll find the cat watching Sharapova and Ellen playing ping pong instead.
adidas, one of the big 3 athletic brands, just signed a multi-year partnership with Indian tennis phenom, Sania Mirza. Sania is an Asian youth icon already, and is sure to become a break-out star globally very soon (maybe at this year's Oz Open?).
Prior to Sania’s time with now-former sponsor, Lotto, she was a part of the adidas Aces Junior Tennis Program. In fact, she won the 2003 Wimbledon Juniors Doubles Title and the 2005 Hyderabad Open Singles Title wearing Adi Dassler's products.
Sania said, “I am extremely happy to be part of such a distinguished family of players and brand ambassadors." Sania joins Ana Ivanovic and Anna Chakvetadze in the adidas stable of young female players. adidas is looking not only to get the next generation of tennis greats in their products, they're also looking for players who embody their philosophy of Impossible is Nothing, and can inspire a global audience.

Evonne Goolagong Cawley, the former World No. 1 Australian female tennis player, and one of the world's leading players in the 1970s and early 1980s. She won 14 Grand Slam titles: seven in singles (four Australian Open, two Wimbledon and one French Open), six in women's doubles, and one in mixed doubles. But she hadn't been given the #1 ranking back in the day. But that travesty is finally over.
SUNRISE BEACH, Australia (AP) -Evonne Goolagong finally made it to No. 1, although the honor was 30 years late in coming.
The Australian tennis star was told by the WTA Tour that she should have been top-ranked for a two-week period in 1976. That was a stretch in which she was in the middle of winning six tournaments, including the Australian Open and the season-ending Virginia Slims Championship.
But when some tournament records were transferred to a computer in 1976, all of Goolagong's points were not entered and she never received the top ranking, the WTA said.
The WTA has amended its records, making Goolagong the 16th No. 1 player since the introduction of tour computer rankings in 1975.
Two weeks ago, the 56-year-old Goolagong received a trophy from the WTA that is now displayed in her oceanside home.
``I'm very proud of the achievement,'' Goolagong told The Associated Press. ``I was on a roll for that stretch in 1976. It was a great surprise to hear after all these years.''
A recent search of the rankings archive in St. Petersburg, Fla., found several paper records were missing between April and July 1976.
Rankings were calculated twice weekly until 1990 - they are done weekly now - and it was discovered Goolagong overtook Chris Evert by 0.8 points after the Aussie's victory in the Virginia Slims in Los Angeles in late April 1976, before Evert regained the crown May 10.
``Unfortunately our record-keeping wasn't perfect in those early days of women's tennis and our ranking system was viewed as a means of just accepting tournament entries,'' WTA Tour chief executive and chairman Larry Scott said.
``It wasn't until the early 1980s that the media and players started to pay attention to the changes in the rankings during the year as opposed to only the end-of-season rankings.''
Goolagong reached the finals of 16 of 24 Grand Slam singles tournaments from 1971 to 1976, winning five of them. She won Wimbledon titles nine years apart - in 1971 and 1980 - to equal Bill Tilden's mark for having the longest gaps between championships at the All-England Club. She has seven Grand Slam singles titles overall.
Goolagong retired in 1985 and lived in the United States - at Hilton Head, S.C., and Naples, Fla. - until moving back to Australia in 1992.
Now, Goolagong is frequently seen power walking in the streets around her Sunrise Beach home north of Brisbane. She and husband Roger Cawley organize tennis camps for Aboriginal youths. During next month's Australian Open, 15 young athletes from across Australia will be flown in for a camp outside Melbourne.
Becker 11 (325 g)
"A professional racquet for the most sophisticated tournament standards." Its got a flexible frame construction for serious control. The BECKER 11 325g will also provides extra power with the high-tensile DNX material located in the racquet bracelets and in the handle sleeve.
Becker 11 (295 g)
This puppy is the lighter version (30g lighter to be exact), for those who like their sticks to be easier to swing. It has a 630cm head-size and 20mm beam. The other big difference is the open 16x19 stringing-pattern. This feature is developed for topspin players, who expect more power.
Both racquets have DNX and Sensor Handle Systems that are the signature technologies of Boris Becker racquets.
If you have aggressive, long strokes these are racquets to check out. They're recommended for the 4.5+ NTRP level players.
Five great racquets...five great brands...one great price. All of these terrific sticks are on sale for $129.99.
Dunlop M Fil 200
Ideally suited for players with aggressive, long strokes.
Recommended for the 5.0-7.0 NTRP level players. This racquet has Dunlop's M-Fil (Multi Filiament) Technology. Which to the technologically challenged includes: Carbon, S-Fibre and Magnesium are combined into the hitting zone of the racquet head to enhance the touch and feel of the racquet where and when you need it most = at the moment of ball contact.
Fischer GDS Vision
Best suited for players with shorter, compact strokes looking for power. Recommended for the 3.0-4.5 NTRP level players. The latest technology in vibration control! A specially calculated matrix structure harmonizes irregular vibration patterns and converts excess energy into higher velocity rebounds. The feedback in these rackets is unprecedented and tuned to perfection.
Head Flexpoint 4
Ideally suited for players with moderate, powerful strokes. Recommended for the 3.0-4.5 NTRP level players. Head's Liquidmetal material is applied to four strategic areas of the racquet’s head and it is the only material that utilizes all the energy your swing generates. No energy is lost on ball impact due to its liquid atomic structure.
Tecnifibre T Fight 315
Ideally suited for players with aggressive, long strokes. Recommended for the 4.5+ NTRP level players. Technifibre's Texalium technology, developed by Hexcel, is primarily used in the aircraft and spacecraft industries. This composite fiber with its specific weave pattern creates strength while being lightweight. Tecnifibre achieves desired benefits bt using Texalium reinforcements at key positions on the tennis racquet frame.
Volkl Tour 10 Gen II Mid Plus
Ideally suited for players with aggressive, long strokes.
Recommended for the 5.0-7.0 NTRP level players. The dense string pattern in the racquet's sweetspot ensures that power is controllable. Balls hit outside the sweetspot maintain optimal power and comfort thanks to the more open string bed. It also includes a two part racquet shaft and TechnoGel surrounded by EVA (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate). This is visible technology you can actually see through the butt cap of the racquet. Designed to dampen vibration without sacrificing touch.
Shock Stop dampens the vibration in its range of titanium tennis rackets. It works by drawing the vibration down the frame of the racket into the handle, where a ball-bearing balanced mechanism absorbs the shock.
The oversize version of the BECKER V1 has a racquet head surface that measures 50cm more than the midplus model, for a total of 710cm. Together with the proven BIG GROMMET technology, this gives you a colossal sweet-spot area. The addition of DNX adds stability and power to the forgiving features of the V1.
In combination with the new SENSOR PLUS SHAFT Dampening along with the SENSOR PLUS HANDLE System comfort is at its best. The variable frame height characteristic for all V1 models gives you an unsurpassed sensitive playing feeling. The racquet is suited for any and all player styles and levels of ability - experience the latest perfection of the V1, experience the Becker V1.
Ideally suited for players with medium, powerful strokes.
Recommended for the 3.0-4.5 NTRP level players.
The Becker V1 has lots of features and technology, and is relatively affordable for the premium sticks. The Becker V1 Midplus has variable beam height (25-22-28mm), the slightly larger than mid-sized head as the name implies (660cm), 4 regions of 'Big Grommets' which I imagine are not unlike the Prince O3 Speedports, and DNX.
The big pluses - big time power and stability and serious vibration dampening, brought to you by the DNX and Sensor Plus technologies. Ideally suited for players with medium, powerful strokes. Recommended for 3.0-4.5 NTRP level players. Sadly, my former playing level and current playing level bookend this range...ugghh. Learn more about the Becker V1 Midplus

· Record-Breaking Viewership for US Open Series: US Open Series television viewership topped 46 million for the first time, more than doubling in the four years since the Series launch. In total, 121 million viewers tuned in to the US Open and US Open Series tournaments.
· Fastest-Growing Participation of any Major Sport Since 2000: More than 25 million Americans are now playing tennis. This increase in participation has fueled the four best consecutive years of growth for industry sales since the 1970’s.
· All-Time High USTA Membership: More than 720,000 members for the first time in history.
· United States Wins Davis Cup: The U.S. captured its first Davis Cup title in 12 years.

We, along with our key partners, will continue to look for new, innovative ways to showcase and grow the game.”
“Our goal is to get more people playing tennis, and to get all tennis players playing more often,” said Kurt Kamperman, Chief Executive, Community Tennis, USTA. “Record participation and membership numbers are evidence that our efforts are producing results. We’ll be launching new and exciting grassroots initiatives in the coming year to keep those numbers growing.”

Tommy Haas has ended his endorsement of Limited Brands
K-Swiss started out being a niche tennis brand nearly 40 years ago, one mostly club players and sailors knew about. Then it transitioned into a more urban brand, picking up a huge fashion following in the process. Now, its shooting to grow more by turning back to its athletic roots and picking up pro athletes (something it has never done) in the past. They've officially picked up Anna Kournikova (while a great from the photogenic standpoint I'm not sure its adding to their 'performance' claims), Alona Bondarenko, Cara Black, and Liezel Huber. With Haas, they're adding both a great pitch person, but also a great player (currently world #12).
The two-time Australian Open semifinalist is changing his stripes and will wear the distinctive five-striped trademark of K-Swiss when the 2008 season opens in Australia. Haas has signed a three-year endorsement deal as a new spokesman for K-Swiss and will wear K-Swiss clothes and apparel on court starting in January.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"I remember seeing K-Swiss as a kid when I was starting my tennis career and am thrilled to be associated with a brand with such a strong heritage," Haas said. "I am obviously excited about the performance tennis styles but also eager to collaborate on off court opportunities as well."
Haas will appear in the Spring 2008 advertising campaign for the brand. Shot in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the campaign features Haas wearing performance tennis and lifestyle apparel and footwear. The partnership also includes personal appearances for the brand and assistance in the design of future performance collections.
The new global K-Swiss advertising campaign, featuring Haas and other K-Swiss athletes, will make its debut in February, 2008. The campaign will be showcased in television, print, on-line, and outdoor venues.
"Tommy is a perfect fit for K-Swiss given our strong classic tennis heritage," Jennifer Weiderman, VP of Marketing for K-Swiss said. "His leadership on the court, style, and passion make him a perfect brand ambassador for K-Swiss.”
Haas' new K-Swiss wardrobe will include a sleeveless shirt — a tribute to Haas' storied sartorial past. Five years ago, Haas made Grand Slam history at the 2002 U.S. Open and incited a spontaneous disappearing act in the process.

Lightweight Power, ergonomic grip, and perfect balance.

Jet Navy Mesh Mini Backpack
The Jet mini racquet bag is a very durable racquet backpack that will hold up to two racquets, and has a little pocket/organizer on the front just in case you want some place to store your ID and car keys or small personal belongings. There is a pocket that will allow you to hold balls or many small personal items. It can be used as a sling or backpack. The sling strap is padded. It also comes with a name tag holder, custom zipper pulls, detachable cell phone holder and a built in fence hook.
So, this butt cap is most certainly, at first glance, generic as the name states. It is black plastic, and that is it. No logos, no design elements, no frills whatsoever. However...with further investigation, we find that it is a "standard replacement butt cap for Head racquets." and it is "not recommended for Shockstop racquets due to special insert." Being designed for a particular brand of racquet, and specific models within that brand, calls into question whether "generic" is an accurate moniker. I suppose it is unbranded...but unbranded for Head only? This may be one of life's unanswered questions...
It also costs $2.08? Where did the $.08 come from?

Wilson Platform Tennis Mitt
My friend and I used to play regular tennis when it was cold, and thought about inventing this type of product. Rats...lost opportunities. Wilson's Platform Tennis Mitt features a fleece construction that traps air for warmth and the new design allows for more room for the paddle.
The Yonex Ladies Fall Dress is an impressive showing in a tennis apparel world that is dominated by Nike, adidas and the "fashionistas" known as the Williams sisters.
I'm no fashion expert by any stretch, but this is a pretty design, very feminine, and great colors and patterns. Its 100% polyester, which may make this a little warmish, but since its off the shoulder, maybe not.

This composite fiber with its specific weave pattern creates strength while being lightweight. Tecnifibre achieves desired benefits bt using Texalium reinforcements at key positions on the tennis racquet frame.
On the fourth day of platform tennis Christmas my true love gave to me...
Viper Paddle Cover
Good quality simulated black leather cover holds two paddles and balls. Adjustable strap. Viper design coordinates with Viper paddles. Plus, they make you look like a bad-ass...well, maybe not...
OK, so we're a wee bit late on this story, but we didn't know about it, what can we say. But we were checking out WIRED and came across a review of the Prince Speedport O3 Speedport Tour. It had a killer picture though, which we have here.
Here's the 2 second tour of the review:
WIRED Airy frame nets noticeably faster strokes and nimble volleys. Dampening system easy to switch out.
TIRED Could be lighter (320 grams unstrung). Muffled ping sound is south of satisfying. A bit stiff. Muddy ball-feel hinders control.
Down The Line!, by way of tennis week, has made a few posts regarding the new Nike apparel for the Australian Open. As always, their fashion analysis is first rate, so we won't try and add to it and screw it up...you can just read the stories here and here.
We'll just show you the cool images of the apparel being sported by Roger Federer. Looks nice, but pretty basic...I might even say boring. But, I sort of like boring sometimes, especially if it comes in the form of clean lines, solid colors and classic looks.
I'm sure the Nike site will do their part to help you find a great gift. But if you're still having trouble, here are some great ideas in our opinion:
The Men's Nike Essentials Crew Tee - athletic fit is cut to stay closer to your body to allow for easy movement and reduce bulk, while low profile seams and natural stretch properties reduce chafing. An athletic sleeve profiled to mid-bicep and differentiated from front to back increase freedom of motion. Dri-FIT fabric has a luxuriously soft feel and helps to wick moisture away from your skin to keep you dry during your hardest workouts.
Women's Nike Drop Shot Cable Sweater - What's All The Racquet LOVES this sweater. A classic tennis look, fashionable but still a little old-fashioned, plus it will keep you warm. A full-zip jersey knit style with a snap placket and cozy foldover neck. Dri-FIT panels at the underarms and sides help keep you cool under pressure.
Klip Legend 16g @ $26.99 Klip Legend 17g @ $26.99

Jelena Jankovic has spent some of her time away from the game playing the starring role in a Frame job. One of the most personable players on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour is joining forces with "Hairspray" actress Brittany Snow to collaborate in a new, original Reebok Entertainment-produced TV show titled "Framed" that will debut Friday night on the IFC channel.
“Framed” aims to take viewers behind-the-scenes in presenting an unfiltered, real view of the biggest names in sports, who each endorse Reebok, and entertainment both on and off the field, court and screen.
Jankovic's spirited sense of adventure and her desire to tell her story directly to fans drew her to the project.
"What attracted me most to the Reebok Framed project was that I love the idea of a challenge, especially the aspect of doing something completely different," Jankovic told Tennis Week today. "Starring in 'Framed' provided me with the opportunity to tell my story to fans. I feel that I am pretty expressive on the tennis court, however fans still don't get to see everything that I am about just by watching me in competitions. Framed provided a window into my life and into who I truly am as a person."
Snow directs the Jankovic episode of Framed, which will premiere on January 11. The pair spent time together on and off the court and Jankovic said she's pleased by the final product.
"I loved having Brittany Snow be the first-time director of my Framed episode," Jankovic told Tennis Week. "We have many similarities, we are both young, fresh and full of energy! I think we had great chemistry together and I think fans will see that when the episode comes out!"
Other celebrities and athletes featured in the original series include NBA All-Star Baron Davis framed by television and screen star Emmanuelle Chriqui and Denver Nuggets star guard Allen Iverson framed by music icon Nelly.
The Desire Swing Skirt provides UV 40+ protection, helping us outdoor tennis players from looking like prunes when we're older. And they come in five designs. We especially like the floral design. They are 80% nylon / 20% spandex w/ "yip-dry."
On the second day of platform tennis Christmas, my true love gave to me...

Well, you actually have to click HERE to see the card. Our friends at Prince sent us an extremely nice holiday card, thank you. And note the use of the oval "O" at the end to represent the O3 and Speedport lines.
Becker is here playing an exhibition match against his former Davis Cup Team-mates Charly Steeb, Eric Jelen and fellow ATP Legend Henri Leconte. He's wearing his own signature apparel, though, this is looking quite sharp. We love orange and black in general, as long as the shirt design doesn't make you look like a jack-o-lantern. This is the new Spring/Summer 2008 apparel collection called Signature Line with Cool Fit material.
Midwest Sports has a lot of great deals right now for the holidays, between 25-50% off. Granted, some of the apparel is last summer's line, but who cares? If you liked it then, and you like it now, I'm sure no one will be putting you under the fashion microscope at the 'ole club this coming summer...so you might as well get in on these great deals.

I'm new to the manga and anime scene, so forgive me for being late to the game. I came across The Prince of Tennis, a popular manga and anime series created by Takeshi Konomi. The series is primarily set in Tokyo. The main character's name is Ryoma Echizen - a tennis prodigy who attends the famous Seishun Academy. While there, Ryoma quickly kicks the asses of many upperclassmen and gets a spot on the varsity team. In pursuit of their ultimate goal of winning the all-Japan junior high tennis championship, members of the team make new friends while learning and mastering increasingly complex techniques.
OK...that's all I know right now. More to come as I learn more about tennis' other prince.
Lydia Hearst has teamed up with PUMA on the new version of their PUMA Lydia Bag (what a clever name) for the 2007 holiday season, called the PUMA Lydia Holiday Bag (an even more inspired name).
Modeled after PUMA’s high style French 77 Racket Bag, but with an all new eye-catching look and unique features, the PUMA Lydia Holiday Bag is the gift for the 2007 holiday season. Fun accessories including a silver metal carabineer to hold key rings, reflect Lydia Hearst’s luxurious but playful style.
For a holiday bag, shouldn't it have reds or greens? Or is that the type of question the fashionistas would scoff at me for? Color and naming aside, this is a sharp, sharp, sharp looking tote. I was also surprised a bit by the quite affordable $125 price tag.

Replacement butt cap for Dunlop racquets. We like this one for its attention to design. First, we have the dual materials going - black plastic and brushed aluminum. And the embossed Dunlop logo is the added touch to make this one a winner. I use a Wilson these days, I almost wish this would fit I like them so much.

I'm a basics and classics kind of guy. That doesn't mean I don't like color, nice fabrics, etc. It just means I tend to like simple designs. This is especially true for my tennis apparel (the early 90's were a difficult time for me in this regard, think about Agassi's wardobe...). Which is why I like this shirt and pants from Champion. Champion may not be a traditional tennis brand name, but for the recreational and club player, they are quality goods, made well, and nicely styled. This duo would is a well-made, functional warm-up that looks good, what more do you need?
Will the steely eyes, imposing physique and 130 mph serve scare the crap out of his poker opponents as they did his tennis opponents? Well...maybe not the serve... Anyway, PokerStars has landed the legendary champion, adding quite a celebrity name in the process. We're all pulling for you Boris on the green felt, we know you'll do as well as you did on the green of Wimbledon.
“When I was still playing professional tennis, I started learning to play poker casually in-between games because it helped me to improve my concentration,” Becker said. “Now I want to develop my poker skills and challenge myself to become really competitive at the highest levels in poker.”
Though it would take a true student of tennis to understand the similarities in the game, Becker has already noted the strategy, psychology, and decision-making under pressure that is required of both endeavors. He has already embarked on a poker training program that will tap his champion's drive. He already has his eye on some of the biggest poker tournaments in the world.
Becker says we can expect to see him first on the European Poker Tour. He's planning to play at EPT Dortmund in his native Germany and the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo next Spring.

OK...you're going to think I've lost it on this one. You're thinking, what the hell is corporate logo wear doing on our tennis blog. Good question, and one which deserves an answer. Let me start by saying that I hate corporate logo wear. And by "hate," I mean DESPISE. It sucks, no two ways about it.
But...this is the holiday season, a time of family and congregation. If your family and friends are all tennis players, or if you belong to a tennis team of some sort, wouldn't customized tennis shirts be sort of cool? Maybe I'm a total geek, likely so. But these are basics - a tshirt, a polo and a visor. What's so wrong about that, and they have low, 4 piece minimums, so its an affordable family gift.
Prince’s Takes Game Improvement Racquets to New Level with Introduction of Strung-Thru-Stringing System™ Innovation Leader Delivers Another Breakthrough Design Technology for Players
Bordentown, NJ, November 29, 2007 – Whether it is a tour proven stick for an elite touring pro or a game improvement racquet for a club or frequent recreational player, the tennis-obsessed team at Prince is focused on bringing products to market that help every player take their game to the next level. Now, with the introduction of the O3 Speedport Platinum and O3 Speedport Gold, they have done it again by developing a revolutionary racquet design that delivers a sweet spot up to 70% larger than a traditional racquet.
Beginning in January, 2008, players looking for the ultimate game improvement racquet will need to look no further. Both the O3 Speedport Platinum and the O3 Speedport Gold will be the first frames to feature Prince’s revolutionary Strung-Thru-Stringing System™, which extends the main strings through the yoke of the racquet, creating the largest sweet spot available. The game-changing, and easy to string design, combined with an ultra-light, oversize O3 Speedport frame, results in two premium racquets with unmatched comfort and unparalleled maneuverability.
“The Strung-Thru-Stringing System is, quite literally, a breakthrough design feature, that will not only surprise players in look but in overall feel and comfort as well,” said Dave Holland, Global Category Director for Performance Racquets at Prince. “O3 has helped us completely re-think racquet design, enabling us to develop new, game-changing technologies which continue to bring player performance to new heights and the best products to market.”
Of course, as Prince continues to expand the personal customization options offered to players, for those who want to string the racquets like any current O3 Speedport frame, both the O3 Speedport Platinum and O3 Speedport Gold will offer an easy-to-insert throat piece that allows them to do just that.
O3 Speedport Platinum and Gold become the latest additions to Prince’s game improvement line which currently includes the O3 Speedport Silver, O3 Speedport Blue and O3 Speedport Red. Since their introduction last year, these racquets have become three of the sport’s best selling frames.
“We have had success with our game improvement racquets over the past year due in large part to the growing interest among players who recognize the undeniable benefits of O3 technology,” said Doug Fonte, President of Prince Americas. “The responses and reactions we received from players who playtested these new frames were extremely positive and we are very excited to bring them to market. The Strung-Thru-System is another visible Prince innovation with proven benefits and a testament to a passionate and forward-thinking R&D team. Platinum and Gold certainly live up to their name and are poised to set the bar high in the game improvement segment.”
SPECS FOR O3 SPEEDPORT GOLD AND PLATINUM:
Prince is dropping two announcements today regarding the O3 line and a new stringing platform. According to Prince spokesperson, Zach Perles,
Prince continues to build on its successful O3 racquet technology platform and strengthen its tour proven line with the introduction of the O3 Speedport White and Ozone Tour. Both racquets will be made available in a "Pro" version which will come in a denser string pattern and strung with Prince's revolutionary new RECOIL string for advanced competitive players wanting exceptional stability and control
In addition, in its game improvement line, Prince is introducing another design breakthrough with the launch of the O3 Speedport Platinum and O3 Speedport Gold - the first racquets to feature the Company's new Strung-Thru-Stringing System(TM) for players wanting the largest sweet spot in the most powerful, lightweight racquet on the market.
Here's the first full release:
Prince Expands Tour Proven Line of O3 Racquets with Launch of Speedport White and Ozone Tour Two New Racquets Include Dense String Pattern Versions for Serious Players
Bordentown, NJ, November 29, 2007 - During a match, every element of the situation that a player can control matters. Having a racquet that “just feels right” and can improve performance, even at the highest level of competition, is crucial for on-court success. As a true tennis company, Prince understands this and is proud to officially introduce two new “Tour Proven” sticks designed specifically for serious players looking for optimal feel, incredible control and unparalleled racquet speed in a traditional weight frame.
With the introduction of the O3 Speedport White and Ozone Tour, both set to debut in January 2008, Prince not only expands its increasingly popular Speedport and Ozone series’, but expands its line of player racquets by bringing to market two new frames proven at the game’s most elite levels. These racquets are a result of continuing conversations with top touring pros and juniors, incorporating features specifically asked for by the world’s most competitive players. Both racquets will also be available in a Pro version offering players a slightly heavier frame and a denser string pattern.
“O3 continues to become a must-have technology among top level players and we continue to develop and deliver frames that meet the needs of this group,” said Dave Holland, Global Category Director for Performance Racquets at Prince. “Whether it is smaller head sizes, or denser string patterns, we listen to what the game’s best players want and then deliver frames built to succeed on court.”
The growth and rapid adoption of O3 technology among the world’s elite players has become apparent in the last two years. Today, one-third of all top ten players in the world (singles and doubles) play racquets with O3 technology. The world’s #1 men’s doubles team, half of the world’s number #1 women’s double team, four of the top ten women’s singles players and the #4 ranked men’s singles player are all playing O3. In fact, O3 technology has racked up nearly 330 tour titles – 25 of which have come from the more recently introduced O3 Speedport racquets.
“All of our racquets, whether game improvement or tour proven frames, need to pass a series of litmus tests before they ever make it on court and I think that is a big reason for their success and the growing adoption of O3 racquets by the world’s best,” said Doug Fonte, President of Prince Americas. “We have listened to what players have asked of us and we are confident that these new sticks, like all of our tour proven frames, will make the same immediate impact. It is amazing to think that O3 racquets have already captured 330 ATP and WTA tour titles and that nearly one-third of all the top ten players in the world now use a racquet with O3 technology. O3 is truly the winning racquet for serious competitive players.”
In addition to receiving a top-caliber frame, those who purchase the O3 Speedport Pro White and Ozone Pro Tour will be able to test another breakthrough product simultaneously. The Pro versions of these racquets will come pre-strung with Prince RECOIL, a revolutionary, new premium string that is changing the string category by providing precise string realignment after each shot, optimal playability and unmatched durability.

2) Segway Polo - The only sport in the world in which Woz (and his trusty personal transporter) could make the A team.
3) Badminton - When tennis balls get silly drunk, they dress up like shuttlecocks.
4) Hacky Sack - Based on our exhaustive research of this game, prog-rock T-shirts and ponytails aren't mandatory, but they help.
5) Curling - More a physics exercise than physical exercise. Bonus: tracksuits.
6) Jousting - Armor + the potential for internal hemorrhaging = pretty cool. If only the Ren Faire were every weekend.
7) Fencing - The fake swords — they're actually fake lightsabers. (Jedi mind trick.)
8) Disc Golf - In an ideal world, we would all put down our clubs and pick up a disc. Frolf, anyone?
Black and gold...my two favorite colors (being a Pittsburgh Steelers fan). Prince gives us a classy yet flashy butt cap with this number. Black with the metallic gold "P", this will match just about any non-white racquet you have.
Mini-Tables & Conversion Tops ($100 range) Park & Sun MTT Mini Table Tennis Table
Good for small spaces, or if your significant other doesn't want the living room dominated by a ping pong table (of all the nerve!). The Park & Sun MTT mini table offers the same playing action as a regulation table but at only 60" x 28" x 30". The 3/8-inch, MDF table top is blue, not green, and folds up neatly for easy storage. Plus it has a handy dandy Velcro lock and carrying handle for easy moving.
Stiga Duo Table Tennis Conversion Top
OK...maybe you've spent your "house real estate capital" getting a pool table into the house (BRAVO friend!), but you're itching to play ping pong. Have no fear, this puppy lets you convert your pool table into a table tennis table in minutes. It fits both 7- and 8-foot pool tables, and side strips help align top properly and sponge rubber strips protect rails and hold top firmly in place.
Medium Priced Ping Pong Tables ($250-400) Competition Table Tennis Table
Have a little more dough (and space) to spend on your table? Try out this number. The Stiga is a great choice for the recreational player to fill that space in your family's game room. It sports a hard wood surface, which provides added responsiveness. Plus, one side can fold up for solo play.
Butterfly TR21 Personal Rollaway Table Tennis Table
While this table is a little more expensive, its a great value for the money - providing a very impressive level of performance. The table sports a 3/4-inch wood table top, 1-1/2-inch steel railing rim, and 1-inch steel legs. The two safety levers on each table side provide an effective child safety feature. It folds into the playback and storage positions without removing the net and post, which are included. It also offers large, sturdy wheels for easy movement. It folds up to 74 inches high, 27 inches wide.
Medium/High-end Ping Pong Tables ($400-600) Stiga Master Table Tennis Table
USATT-approved, the Stiga Master Table Tennis Table is a quick set-up and great for serious ping pong. It features a 0.75-inch tournament blue top, a heavy-duty chassis, and 3-inch ball-bearing casters for easy mobility. It also has the playback position so you can practice by yourself, and a storage position that makes the table easy to store when not in use. A nice extra...the corner pads help to protect you from contact with the table during aggressive play.
Prince PT200 Competitor Table Tennis Table
This table is really a recreational model, but it has reinforced braces on the sides for stability. In other words, its a great table for the recreational but very passionate table tennis player. The PT200, folds into a compact footprint for easy storage, is made of MDF. High End Ping Pong Tables ($1,000+) Killerspin Revolution Tournament Indoor Folding Ping Pong Table
Look...if you don't like this ping pong table, you just might not have a soul. OK, maybe that's a little overstated, but you certainly don't have an eye for cool design. You aren't going to see this table around all the time, its a state of the art, premium piece of equipment. It was specifically developed with professional competitions in mind, and has been used exclusively in the Killerspin Extreme and Spinvitational Tournaments. Its two piece table top construction makes set up a breeze, and the unique cutting edge base with its durable metal arched structure, was designed not only for its good looks, but for the superior stability it provides. One more bonus...I've actually seen this table used as a conference room table at a PR firm (David & Sam PR) - great idea and a lot of fun for the company I'm sure.
Killerspin True Blue Competition Indoor Folding Ping Pong Table
This may not have the lines of the Revolution, but those folks at KillerSpin don't put out shabby tables. To use their term, the True Blue is a "work horse competition table tennis table." If you're not a competitive player, this might not be the one for you, its really meant for tournaments, competitions, training and is the choice for institutional use. Killerspin designed the True Blue with quality and durability as the goal. And to show how much thought they put into it, there are Individually adjustable feet to give you a level-playing surface.
Congratulations to the US Davis Cup team for kicking ass, taking names, and winning the Davis Cup this weekend. This 32nd Davis Cup title (a new record) was led by gutsy performances by an extremely strong team.
Andy Roddick defeated Dmitry Tursunov 6-4, 6-4, 6-2
James Blake defeated Mikhail Youznhy 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-3)
Bob and Mike Bryan defeated Nikolay Davydenko and Igor Andreev 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, 6-2
And we'd be terribly remiss if we didn't give proper kudos to the Davis Cup Captain, one Patrick McEnroe.
K-Swiss isn't about big budget marketing campaigns like the big dogs, Nike and adidas. It just wants to make great tennis shoes.
The K-Swiss Ultrascendor low is one of the best all-around tennis shoes available. It combines a support, comfort and durability into an extremely light show. How? Cool technology that's how. The Ultrascendor is loaded with innovative technology and great features, like a special insole to prevent the kind of in-shoe movement that causes blisters and hot spots. And K-Swiss has patented Cushion-Board Construction and a Shock-Spring Midsole for excellent support and cushioning. I'm a toe-dragger, so I like that the Ultrascendor has high wear areas that are specially reinforced. And I've found the lacing system (cool oval laces) to tie quickly and stay tight.
The big draw to me, though, is the weight. They are nearly as light as a running shoe, which is pretty impressive given the mid-top and durability.
