McEnroe Saves USTA's US Open Series Ad Campaign

We've all seen the US Open Series ads with the big blue bus and our favorite players talking about "the greatest road trip in sports." This year, the USTA planned on expanding on this theme with ads on the bus with Justin Gimelstob playing the heel to top pros in funny skits. Well, Gimelstob became a heel in real life with offensive comments, so the USTA needed to either fix or pull all these great ads. Enter Johnny Mac, who stepped in to save the day.

Babolat & Rafa Introduce New Junior Racquet

nadal-junior-110_HiRes.jpgBoulder, Colorado - July 22, 2008 -- Babolat, a leading manufacturer of tennis products, announces the introduction of a full line of Nadal Junior racquets for children. Named for the five-time Grand Slam winner, Rafael Nadal, the Nadal Junior racquets are designed for budding young players age four to nine.

Babolat, with its long history of innovation, has developed many game-changing technologies for tennis racquets, strings and tennis-specific footwear. "Our products have been used by tennis champions for over 135 years. With this new line of Nadal Junior racquets, we hope to inspire a whole new generation of players to discover and enjoy the game of tennis," said Eric Babolat, President and CEO of Babolat.

The Nadal Junior line will make its debut in September with five new racquets. The Nadal 100, 110, 125, 140 and 145 are a lightweight aluminum construction making them perfect for beginners and juniors, and feature the same cosmetics as the top-selling adult Aeropro Drive model used by Rafael Nadal.

Nadal and Babolat, a winning combination

From the time he first started playing tennis, Nadal's secret weapon has been a Babolat racquet. His Aeropro Drive was designed specifically for his topspin heavy game with the use of aero-modular technology in the frame to increase the racquet head speed. "Rafa is truly a great champion and sportsman. We work closely with him to develop the right products to suit his game and are very proud of the collaboration," explained Babolat. "You can see the results he's getting with this racquet."

The new Nadal Junior racquets will be priced starting at $24.95 and available in pro and tennis specialty stores starting in September 2008.

Any Table Ping Pong Table - Helping the Space-Challenged Feed their Table Tennis Addiction

tithi07.gifWe're having trouble figuring our whether this is available for sale yet, but it certainly looks pretty cool. The ping-pong tablecloth fits any size table (for the most part) and two adjustable clips to hold the net in the middle. Curious to see what material the tablecloth is made from and how the ball bounces. But judging from the pics, looks like it works pretty well. We don't have room in our house for a table, but I've been dying to play so maybe this is the answer!

HEAD Pros Have Solid Success at Wimbledon

head_penn.jpg07/08/08 - Austria - Kennelbach - HEAD players battled tough competition to reach the semifinal and final rounds of Wimbledon last weekend.

Former World No. 1 and HEAD player Marat Safin reached the semifinal round where he faced five-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer, who later lost to eventual Wimbledon Champion Rafael Nadal.

"It's my first semi-final, so levels are a little bit different," said Safin. "To beat Federer you need to be Nadal and run around like a rabbit and hit winners from all over the place."

On his way to the semifinal round, Safin defeated World No. 3 Novak Djokovic in 3 straight sets with his MicroGel Prestige Mid,6-4, 7-6, 6-2. Safin could improve his ranking South African Airways ATP ranking from 75 to 40 due to his success at Wimbledon.

Fellow HEAD player Rainer Schuettler of Germany also reached the semifinals, where he lost against eventual winner Rafael Nadal. In the quarterfinals, Schuettler defeated HEAD player Arnaud Clement in five sets after a grueling 5 hour long match, with a 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(6), 6-7(7), 8-6 win. Schuettler, who climbed 55 ranks to position 39 in singles, plays with the HEAD MicroGel Prestige Mid.

"It could have gone either way. I don't know how but I won it," said Schuettler. "Tennis is brutal like that. I can't remember ever playing for five hours, missing so many chances or taking so many chances. And if I'd have lost, I'd have said to Arnaud 'Well played, good luck'. And that's exactly what he said to me."

Additionally, eight out of 16 HEAD pros reached the fourth round of Wimbledon and four out of eight HEAD pros reached the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, HEAD player Nenad Zimonjic and partner Daniel Nestor claimed the men's doubles championship, despite Zimonjic's broken wrist bone. Zimonjic, who plays with the HEAD MicroGel Radical MP, and Nestor defeated Jonas Bjorkman and Kevin Ullyett 7-6(12), 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-3 to earn the doubles title.

"This is my first Grand Slam title and it's special that it's Wimbledon as well," said Zimonjic. "It is my 21st title and the biggest one for sure."

This is the first Wimbledon title for Zimonjic and Nestor. The win tops off an impressive year, with the pair winning 21 out of 23 matches thus far.

Without question a magical match, the best Wimbledon final I've ever seen.

And of course, congratulations to Nike, Babolat and Wilson...but especially Nike because they had both players covered.

Wimbledon Ad Uses Grass As Its Medium

The ad for HSBC (below) is on the grounds at Wimbledon, and it uses images that were grown in grass. The process works like photographic paper, because of the properties of the grass itself. There are images of players and umpires.

Polo Ralph Lauren 2008 Lifestyle Wimbledon Collection

Few brands are more American than Ralph Lauren.

Below is just one image of the 2008 Wimbledon lifestyle collection from Polo Ralph Lauren. Cool, contemporary and classic - exactly what we love here at Whats All The Racquet. I think I like the women's line just a little bit more, but both men's and women's are spot on.

We had trouble picking which images to show, we finally came down on this one. But they're all great, check out more of them at Tennis Served Fresh.

Nadia Petrova Dons Venus Williams; EleVen @ Wimbledon

nadia-petrova-wimbledon08a.jpgWe haven't talked about Venus Williams' Eleven clothing line much recently, not even to check out her outfits for Wimbledon. We've always liked the lines and the styles.

What is interesting recently though, is that it looks like the line is getting some traction in terms of other pros starting to wear the line. Nadia Petrova was seen in eldest Williams' sister's designs at Wimbledon this year.

Nice work Venus!
