Vintage Tennis Friday: Adidas Stan Smith Canvas

Adidas continues to release styles under the Adidas Tournament Collection which consists of other vintage adidas models. These cool kicks have a canvas upper that looks off-white (I'm color blind) According to SneakerFiles, these are reported to be releasing on in the UK, but a U.S release date has not been confirmed.

First look at Nike Tennis Classics shoe package

Never to be outdone by rival adidas (see adidas Tournament Pack brings the tennis classics back!), we have a first look of the Nike Tennis Classic Pack - which includes Tennis Classics in gray, blue and "bordeaux" which is a fancy way to say "maroon." The kicks are suede and an outlined Swoosh without stitching. In addition, a small stamp from the designers, Fragment Design< is stamped on the back of the heel. So they aren't a direct parallel to the adidas classics really, we'd rather have seen them in the classic looks. No official release date yet.

Another New Stan Smith Style - Vulcanized in Green/Sand

With such a basic design and a clssic look, Stan Smith's are an easy shoe to continue to customize for fashion purposes. Here's another, this time with a hunter green upper with contrasting sand color pops. The vulcanized sole is also a departure from the traditional cupsole on Stan Smiths.

Two new color-ways for the ever-evolving Stan Smith line - the Sleek and Superstar Vintage.

Interesting side point, adidas will also be selling matching apparel for the Vintage model.

Nadal's Nike Gear for the French Open

It looks like greens and olive khaki's for the world's #2 (#3 if Nolo keeps it up). As usual, it will be the Nike Dri-Fit Sublimated Sleeveless shirt and the Dri-Fit Capri (capris being something we're still on the fence about). On the footwear, Nada will be in the Nike Air Max Breathe Cage II in classic green/white/black metallic. And the obligatory wrist and headbands.

Federer's Nike Apparel for the Spring Season

You can't cover Sharapova's new nike threads without also talking about Federer's, so here we go. I don't know where Down The Line digs this stuff up, but it never fails to impress, so thank you.

Looks like Fed will be sporting the Nike Sphere React Cool Polo in white + dark obsidian and the Dri-Fit Control Short in black for the Sony Ericsson Open.

For the European clay-court season, it will be the Sphere React Cool Polo in blue chill.

And the really interesting possibility, a lilac (yes, lilac) polo for Roland Garros.

dTL Women's Tennis Apparel - Fashion Meets Function

We are very intrigued and interested in dTL Sport's (Down the Line Sportswear) women's tennis clothing. Functional, fashionable, unique styles, and affordable! What a novel concept!

We're no experts on women's fashion, but we know what we like. And we like designs that are flattering, unique (i.e. not the same old same old from the big apparel makers), and able to be worn during matchplay.

They are aspiring to enter a market that's dominated by some very powerful players - not the least of which are Nike, adidas and Reebok. Very smartly, dTL has taken a page our of the Tupperware book, facilitating what they call Courtside Parties, which are "informal gathering(s) at a home, business or even at the tennis courts after a match." Holding such a party allows people to earn credits towards future dTL purchases. Brilliant.

Stella McCartney / adidas Tennis Dress

As Tennis News Blog says, "...the current trend in tennis apparel is now more than just something you wear when you play tennis. It is also about turning heads and looking great." I have no idea how well this apparel performs in actual match play, but it certainly is a beautiful design.

Lacoste + kidrobot = Funkarific Sneakers

Fashion Week Daily's Chic Report provided the head's up on Lacoste’s newest sneaker offering.

This definitely falls into the "form over function" category of tennis shoes, it is a collaboration between Lacoste and kidrobot (who makes cool, innovative toys, apparel and art).

There are three different styles, and each comes with its own customized PEECOL toy. According to the article, there are only 500 pairs in existence of the Missouri 85 with grey and white bones, the Revan 2 with tennis green and yellow icons, and the Revan 3 with eyeball print.

You can buy them at kidrobot HERE. They're $175 each, which is steep in my opinion. But fashion knows no budget I suppose.
